If you would like the plain professional information,
here is my CV.
But other than that, who is the guy behind the translation services?
Curious about everything in the world, studied electronics engineer, 47 years old, vocal Early Music performer, language enthusiast. (Also: A photographer, bookworm, graphic designer, all-round tech guy, traveler, chili grower...)
My curiosity manifested early, by learning to read at the age of four - and I have been living on a steady diet of several books per week ever since. Growing up in a technically-oriented family, having an engineer with a degree in mining and geology for dad, and a computer technician for mom (and we are talking of the early 1970s!) I have naturally developed a high interest in all things man-made. Equally natural was my choice of technical studies which followed. After having completed my
degree in electronics and telecommunications from
Silesian University of Technology I spent several years working in various professions. First, as a design engineer in railway safety systems, then as a teacher and researcher specializing in analog electronics and switching power technology at my alma mater. Later I worked as a systems administrator for my university computing and networking center (which, at that time, was the main ISP for the entire region).
A colleague from work, who realized my command of English and my skills in writing scientific papers in Polish, suggested I should take a part in a large technical translation he was working on. This turned out to be the perfect profession for me, fully engaging both brain halves and allowing me to combine language skills with general and specific technical knowledge and my love for research. Soon I started translating on a larger scale, and after some time I turned this into my full-time profession. And have not looked back ever since.
My varied professional experience has proven invaluable in my current position. Working with railway safety systems has taught me attention to detail, a deep awareness of safety and responsibility, and made me closely acquainted with technical writing. As a university researcher I have learned to research well and to formulate clear and precise documents, while my time as a systems administrator brought me closer to cutting edge technology and the informal lingo of geeks, while raising my sense or responsibility and importance of timeliness even further. All of these traits made for assets in my work as an independent language service provider for Polish these days. I am sure my content customers would agree.
