Jan Aleksander Gorczyn

Jan Aleksander Gorczyn was born in Cracow in 1618 and died in that same city after 1694. He was an important figure for Polish Early Music, as he was a writer on music and is the author of "Tabulatura muzyki, albo Zaprawa muzykalna" which is a simplified handbook on the basics of music, aiming at amateurs. The work was printed in Cracow in 1647. Gorczyn probably also was a composer himself, as there is a note on a work "Gaude" by him mentioned as recently as the last century; however, the piece did not survive but must count as lost nowadays.
